Heterogeneous Robot Training Lab (KIRO)
Curricula and hands-on manuals for 8+ industrial and collaborative robot brands; ran the center's opening demonstration.
Period 2022.08 – 2023.03 · Affiliation Korea Institute of Robotics and Technology Convergence (KIRO), Robot Vocational Innovation Center · Role Intern — robot control system analysis, training curriculum and manual design, demonstration operation and control
Responsibilities
- Characterizing more than 8 heterogeneous robots and building an integrated training environment: Analyzed the differing control systems of Hyundai, FANUC, ABB, and KUKA industrial robots as well as UR, Doosan, and Neuromeka collaborative robots, and designed a beginner/intermediate/advanced training curriculum. Beyond organizing manuals, I matched the distinct coordinate frame settings and communication specifications of each robot arm myself, producing hands-on manuals that let field practitioners get started immediately.
- Opening-ceremony demonstrations and interface optimization: Was responsible for the opening-ceremony demonstration that ran dozens of machines in the center simultaneously, operating and controlling the heterogeneous robots so they ran stably without interference. For demonstrations requiring precise control, such as a stamping and signing event using collaborative robots, I designed the end-effector motions for each robot.
What I Learned
Bringing robots from different manufacturers into a single training environment gave me a feel for integrating equipment whose coordinate frames, communication specifications, and safety systems all differ. This experience became the starting point for later work at KETI integrating heterogeneous mobile robots under Open-RMF fleet management and aligning communication specifications with external systems such as stackers and MiR robots.
